Lake Sevan

Almost everyone who comes to Armenia, especially in the summer, will certainly want to see the blue jewel - Lake Sevan. In ancient times, the lake was within the ancient Armenian province of Syunik, and was called in Armenian Gelamovo Lake or Geghama (Gelamian) sea (Armenian - Գեղամա ծով). It is a miracle of nature, situated at an altitude of 1900 meters above the sea level and proximity to the sky, the most beautiful of mountain lakes, located in a thicket of huge mountain. Its depth varies from 30 - 100 meters. Sevan is the second mountain lake in the world with reserves of fresh water, assigning Lake Titicaca. Its water is so clear and pure that (according to the legend) only stars and gods drank from it.

Lake Sevan is filled with not only the cleanest water of the Mountain Rivers and glaciers, but also here you can see a lot of attractions. One is Lchashen - the most ancient (end of IV century BC) settlement, which was opened as a result of shoaling, and the ruins of the castle and the town of Khaldi in Gavar that survived from the time of  Urartu, and the ancient necropolis near the village Noraduz, where there are more than 900 unique monuments - khachkars (cross-stones), the age of the oldest of which dates back to VII century, and the medieval churches and monasteries of IX century...

Today, around the lake are built a lot of hotels, resorts and tourist centers. Sevan is a favorite vacation spot of the locals as well as of numerous foreign tourists.
